Discussion with the Ateliers Moret - Matthieu Perramant

How did the covid impact the life of the workshop?

Of course, the covid has disorganized us. However, we only closed for two months.
Then, to be able to reopen the workshop, we reduced our capacity to the maximum and we resumed our activity by being only three working in the workshop and by welcoming only one artist at a time.

How did the courses go over the past few months?

The courses expected in 2020 have all been canceled. But since January 2021, we have found again a reception’s rhythm, even if the successive announcements of exhibitions and their cancellations have naturally impacted the activity of the workshop.

Today, the course’s application stays substantial. Especially since the students are struggling to find one during this difficult period.??, we managed to organize ourselves to receive students from the Estienne school, so that everyone could stay in the workshop for a month.

Are there new courses planned with Joop Stoop?

The courses with Joop Stoop come back in September! There is an important demand, we appreciate these courses in group. It is always a fun moment of sharing and it gives the opportunity to work with people from different background and with a different technical level. It is also very rewarding in a pedagogic point of view. You have to adapt your speech according to the person in front of you and at the same time, you have to able to please both beginners and professionals. ;-)
This approach in group can be completed with a private course for example. It is a way to share things in a different and more intimate way with the artists.
And speaking of new courses, we are offering a day around aquatint and its 3 techniques on the 25th of September.

This available will enable people to try the techniques and to appreciate the inks sold by Joop Stoop. Several plaques will be engraved by each trainee and everyone will be able to leave with a more precise idea of what they like to do and what they can expect from it.

Joop Stoop’s products will be in the spotlight for the workshop but they are present in the workshop on a daily basis anyway. For my part, I work with TD color inks for intaglio and Gutenberg ink for prints.

To conclude, something new about the Ateliers Moret to share with us?

Actually, yes! We are launching an editing activity at the workshop.

We take care of the printing material and currently support three artists for series of prints, Frédérique Lucien, Yann Bagot and Najah Albukai. We will present their work at MAD in Romainville on the 10th, 11th and 12th of September. It is a workshop that will bring together different worlds that take us out of our way. It is something we like and we cannot wait to share it with you.
